artbip

artbip support

artbip is a free Mac app that puts a public-domain painting on your desktop on the schedule you choose. This page covers the common questions and how to reach the developer.

Report a problem

Wrong picture, title, artist or date? While the work is on your desktop, choose Report a Problem… in the artbip menu. It opens a GitHub issue form with the work's details already filled in. Nothing is sent until you submit the form.

You can also open an issue directly on GitHub:

GitHub issues are public, so don't include anything you want to keep private.

Common questions

What do I need to run artbip?

A Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 15 Sequoia or later. artbip lives in the menu bar, not the Dock.

The picture stopped changing after a restart.

Turn on Launch at Login in the artbip menu. It is off until you choose it.

A painting looks cut off or blurry.

artbip never crops: it places the whole painting over a blurred copy of itself or a colour from its palette. If a work still looks wrong, use Report a Problem… while it is showing so the exact work is identified.

I never want to see a particular painting again.

Choose Never Show Again in the menu while it is on screen. You can undo this in the gallery's Blocked list.

Does it work offline?

It keeps rotating through images it has already downloaded. New images need an internet connection.

How do I remove artbip completely?

Choose Restore Original Wallpaper in the menu to put your previous wallpaper back, then quit artbip, delete the app, and delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/artbip.
